Log Gasification Boilers

Log gasification boilers essentially are wood burning stoves that reach very high temperatures to ensure you get a very efficient burn of the logs/wood.

Of all the biomass boilers on offer they are the least controllable and ideally need to be run alongside buffer or accumulator tanks which can store the heated water until it is drawn off to provide heating and hot water to your home of which can be controlled via programmers and stats as in a conventional heating system.

The boiler with addition of a buffer tank and wood store takes up quite a large space but if you have surplus supplies of wood and somewhere to keep it dry then you can make savings of up to 50% compared to oil, and reduce your carbon footprint to almost 0%.

Pellet Boilers

Pellet boilers are extremely controllable, as much so as conventional oil or gas boilers.

Depending on the size of the boiler the pellets can be stored in an internal hopper an external hopper up to 180kg or in a pellet store which the pellets fed via auger directly into the boiler. All of these options are fully automated and can be controlled as you wish.

The pellets are made from compressed wood chips and have extremely high calorific values, and low moisture content.

With the efficiency of the combustion chamber, controllability and high quality wood pellets efficiencies of up to 95% can be achieved with added bonus that it is a carbon neutral heat source. This is due to pellets releasing the same amounts of carbon when burnt, as the trees where they were derived from absorbed from the atmosphere when they grew.

Solid Fuel Boilers

Biggs and Read install wood burning stoves and optional back boilers which can be used to provide heating and hot water.

These can be integrated to run alongside oil, gas, and renewable technologies to further reduce running costs.

Wood Chip Boilers

Wood Chip Boilers are just as controllable as the pellet boilers but are not really suitable for a small dwelling, ideally they are suited to larger commercial projects.

Companies specialising in manufacturing with the use of wood, are often left with vast quantities of wood, which are often sent to landfill or just burnt. Having the wood chipped and then burning it in a self-automated boiler can save vast amounts of money from not only a comparison to oil heating but money is also saved via no more disposal charges.
